I saw the movie “Avatar” today. It is truly epic in every way imaginable. The 3D animations are so real that you accept the world and characters as they were real. I did not even once say to myself, wow such amazing computer generated animation. It may be the fantasy MMO lower in me but I was completely living in the world during the whole movie.

As for the story, it was great, entertaining and emotional. You defiantly want to go see it with your girl friend or wife.

I can see a lot of academy awards for this movie but acting won’t be one of them. And this is no fault of the actors.  If the avatars were real they would grab all the awards.

Go see it on the biggest movie screen you can find.

Their is a 2d version iirc, and I don't know about the rest of the world but 3D where I am in Canada isn't the red/green glasses. They look more like sun glasses.

I thought the movie was great. Although I felt the story was predictable, and kinda dull (could have been much better!!!), the Cinematography was Absolutely Amazing!!! I'm interested in seeing more movies take advantage of this technology and bring other previously impossible worlds to life on the big screen!

I'm somewhat curious as to how I will see this (in a technical sense).  I have lots of stuff bad with my eyes (and they've been bad since birth) so I can't see 3d, and I have no depth perception.

Regular/old 3d movies with green/red lenses just looked stupid, maybe this'll at least look somewhat decent in 2d.

I live in Canada and I can say that natives up here did suffer just the same as south of the border.

The church is guilty of a lot of atrocities when they forced Christianity on the natives. Especially when, they took their children away. And put them in to camps to mold them in to their model of citizenship. The native society never really recovered after that. The government of course did apologize. But the harm to society is done.

Even now the alcohol abuse, drug use and suicide rate by young natives are extremely high. Hopefully one day things will get better for them without losing their unique identities.

When the French set foot on the banks of St. Lawrence, the welcoming natives pointed to their village to invite them there. The word “Kanata” was used, meaning the village. Jacques Cartier and company thought that was the name of the nation and the name “Canada” got stuck since. Giving the new nation its Iroquoian name.

The rest is history.

Interesting you see the North American Indian reference....Ive always admired their outlook on life and nature and mentioned to Grurl that there was some clear similiarities between the Indian struggle and the natives in the movie. As I have only ever been a visitor a few times to the US I am not sure on how you guys see it but as an Aussie, and perhaps a humanist :), I sympathise with the plight of most indigenous people.

I did see a lot of substance, specially the Mother Nature theme of the movie.

The natives in the movie were like the first nations of North America, who had their spirits to guide them. And nature was a main part of their spirituality.

The movie reminded me the struggle of North American natives against the invading settlers.

Of course unlike the movie, that part of history does not have a happy ending.

Grurl and I went and saw it in 3D and yeh, great effects! I liked the story line as while the theme is pretty standard (good v evil etc) there was a lot of thought put into the world and setting. Definately a big screen movie.

I thought it looked nice but had no substance.  The story was exactly like Ferngully.. cept with machine guns.

I obviously did not like Ferngully ;)
