Hell has it about right actually ;-) Locals generally steer clear of Surfers like the plague due to mass amounts of tourists resulting in way over priced alcohol, food, and pretty much everything really.
On the occasions that I did end up going in to Surfers, the only clubs worth a visit were The Party (alternative/rock/metal - which I have just read closed a couple of months ago) and The Rose and Crown (often has a live band playing). Unless of course you like mainstream dance music, then you have a huge assortment of places to choose from ;-)
Local pubs really don't have that much of a draw to point out any one in particular as being worth a visit.
Admittedly it's been a few years now since I was willing to put myself through the torture of a night out drinking on the town, so my info could be a bit out of date ;-)
As for the weather, it's the best time of year! I am enjoying it while I can before the dreaded summer swelter months are upon us once again :-(

I think the point of Hell's response I disagreed with was her alleging she didn't know of any pubs... other than that, I think you're spot on - it's definitely a tourist scene, but I must admit I enjoyed waking up to sun and surf, rather than frost!
