For those who have been investigating MoM (or have had previous experiance), what are your thoughts on the future of Elendilmir PvMP?

From what i've gathered, and from previous experiances in 1.5 years of Turbine's 'fixes', I have no confidence in MoM PvMP. Creep DPS has not scaled to match new freep armor/health and while freep DPS has reached very heady heights (champs and hunters), our morale has gone down and it looks like mitigations have been reduced too.

The good 'new' fancy skills are at insane levels like 10-12 and the chance of even a reasonable proportion of the population reaching those ranks within a year is very low, especially given the reduction in raid infamy.

On the other hand, Minstrels sound like they're going to be worthless in the DPS role... so they'll all be healing and nobody will be in warspeech..... well ok, that's not a plus either.

Personally... i'm still deciding if I even want to purchase MoM.

THUMBS DOWN

I don't have enough time in a day to do Real Life stuff and all what needs to be done in Creep and Freep land ... LOL

With all joking aside, the only thing I am really disappointed with Turbine in the MoM expansion is that we are still in the Moors and not in Moria. I can not tell you how boring it was to slay dev monsters at 1 million+ morale during stress testing.

They really were not playing, they were just tanking.

I'm now getting devastating criticals with ents above 1600+ at level 53. Regular criticals come in about 1200+. I had one set of at-level goblins I drilled with it, of the four with the AoE, two did dev criticals for 1600+ each. That's insane...

...And I'm a loremaster.

Where to start. First, I'm totally depressed with what they did to defilers. Monstrel might not recover. The real shocker is just how crazy the damage output by Hunters is. My main freep is Talbot the hunter. Let me just say that at level 50 with a level 11 legendary bow and slotting the Huntsman traitline (I think thats the one, its the one with all the love in Strength Stance) I am getting crits of 1500 with Merciful shot and I've gotten 4 Heartseeker crits of 3400 or better all against level 51 mobs. What's that going to look like in 9 more levels against us?

One hunter is essentially now worth three hunters pre-Moria. And we've got significantly less health and healing output? Wait, what?

I'll tell you what I think it's going to look like, it's going to be a decimated slaughter.

Those leveled up Second Age Bows with all those tasty legacies and runes make Monstrel cry.

I don't have alot of hope right now. This stands to be THE WORST period ever for creeps by a longshot. It'll make the early days look like playschool.

Blackpain and I are doing wardens and RK's.. both are going to be VICIOUS.

The warden has enormous HoTs so it'll be a pain to kill without burst damage

The RK has HUGE burst damage. The first target it focusses on is going to die.

After leveling my LM to 53 and getting well into leveling both my legendary items, my previous optimism about PvMP in MoM is gone. I really think this is going to be brutal for us once there are a bunch of level 60 guys running around. Yeah, if you read the forums, Lore-masters are supposed to be "nerfed" because of the tactical critical chances... but my LM is hitting criticals all the time with devastating criticals being somewhat regular. I had Ents go to War hit for 1152 damage on an at-level mob. As a Lore-master. Crazy.

You really, really feel the BPE change and it makes you super squishy... but man, this is really something else. How is everyone else feeling who are leveling Freeps?

I'm definitely getting MoM, I have a lifetime account, so that's how they get ya! I'm in it for the long haul, and the only MMO that I have another eye on might be Knights of the Old Republic, which is a ways away I think.

I'll be primarily interested in the moors, and will spend time there immediately after release, but I'm also gonna take my hunter from 50 to 60 and check out the legendary weapons and stuff like that. I see my hunter as the one freep character that will go through till Mordor, so I feel obligated to keep him leveled and geared up as best I can.

As far as balance, I feel no matter what we are given to work with, we'll be able to win battles and have plenty of fun.

There will always be freeps. I must admit though that I find non-stop PvP considerably more interesting. And I just don't imagine that happening for a while in LOTRO once MoM is released. Your mileage may of course vary, objects may be closer than they appear....

It's going to be several months at the very least that I see the Moors being fairly status quo and quiet.

On the flipside, there are a LOT of new games released this month and last. So I have plenty to keep me happy in the meantime.

I'd normally agree if this were just another Book release, but the game is changing in a big way and not just in the PvE world. Granted, there will be those that want to get to 60 ASAP, but It'd be foolish for freeps to for the most part leave us alone for a month or two while we learn all the new Moor's mechanics. There will be those freeps who know they need to be playing the Moor's immediately after MoM's launch to get started [learning] on those new changes. Otherwise the level 60 freeps who return several months later will face creeps that are quite familiar with the new way of things.

So in short I think that enough freeps will stick around in the Moor's to keep us entertained during the low months to come.

Slightly sidetracking, but I think this is something we should work on earlier rather than later. At the moment we're focusing one player only, even with large numbers. The result is that the freeps just hit their oshit buttons (bubbles, feign death etc) and the DPS sometimes gets nowhere.
LotRO healing is "laggy", in that all heals have animation delays, most heals have cast times and quite a lot of instant heals have cooldowns. What I think is more useful is focusing on 2 targets at once. If we can co-ordinate enough, even a 25/75 split on dps, 25% of the raids DPS hits target A, target A gets bubbles+instant heals, then the 75% hit target B while the freeps have no instant abilities left.
Ok, so those numbers are completely made up, I don't know what sort of split is good. But I think freeps are now getting very snappy reaction times with regards to healing, so if we can "fake" the freeps into burning a whole heap of instants on the wrong target we should get an easy secondary kill.
And then if they get used to this, we can always go back to our first method of nuking just one target, so while they wait for target B to get hit, A just gets flattened.
There are downsides though. If we're in a 2raid v 2raid situation, just having two targets won't be enough. We will need to significantly split DPS because we need healers to actually use their instants on the first target, but we'll still need DPS on the second target to burn through regular healing.
And for some classes switching targets is easy (BA), but reavers and maybe spiders will probably have more trouble trying to stay in for two targets. We really don't want reavers getting caught in a tarball with charge down.

This is starting to sound more and more complicated as I write it. Maybe it's not such a great idea. Maybe it just needs polishing. Maybe I'm just derailing this thread. Maybe I need to sleep.

Have ordered MoM...

Those in the the know, I HOPE will want to do more fellowships...remember, less infamy now while raiding - more in fellows.

Stick to vent and especially the targeting macro's and we should be fine (still not a big fan of skill target forwarding...).
Plus with multiple groups working as if they were a raid, we can as others have pointed out truly focus and take down multiple targets (think 3-4 ranged fellows, 1 stealth, 1-2 melee/interference, and 1 healer group).

My WL is rank 4 and has a few of the poor maps so I may pull him back out if we need it...and have plenty of DP to get the new stuff for him too.

If the GM was Jalessa then her word is worth its weight in gold. She was extremely responsive to suggestions, recommendations and concerns before everything was set in stone and all that was left was tweaking numbers up and down.

I've pre-ordered MoM based on my experiences in testing and responses I received that reassured me that our concerns are being listened to. I'll probably dive back in late this year once WAR settles into a routine and I want a change of pace again.

We had a Moors test event on the Beta server today and it was quite interesting. We took Ost to get the relic from the room behind where the CG usually stands, and ran it across the map back to DG (it turned in automatically when the person carrying it got near the Tyrant, didn't have to hand it to anyone).

We then had some creep/freep battles. When in close combat we did quite well, however they had few to no champs, a lot were sub-level 60's, and many were autolevelled characters with cruddy gear. Plus I think we outnumbered them. I noticed with the damage that was being dished out that it was really difficult to keep someone up if they were FFed (not impossible, but certainly extremely hard). One player who was freepside commented: "it was an absolute joke on the freep side. A lot of freeps seemed like they were on a sight-seeing journey (did they realize it was Jurrasic Park-esque out there?)and did not actually care about fighting. People just staying dead everywhere, no communication, no coordination many under 55's."

So while we wiped the freeps a few times, when you take all of the above into the equation, it's not surprising.

There were a few comments from one of the GMs/Dev who was raided with us that people may find of interest:

GM Comment: "From what we've seen, at close range, creeps stack up very well against freeps. It's at range that they have a major advantage that we need to look at and try to adjust."
Player Responses:

  • "if this were live, there would be at least 5 Champs, and they'd have a much better time in melee."[/*:m]
  • "these guys aren't max level or geared for the most part"[/*:m]
  • "lots of wardens... not exactly beneficial for the raid"[/*:m]
  • "Without the freeps having top end amour and weapons or being 60 it's not quite a fair fight"[/*:m]
  • "Things will probably be different on live where you have the "hardcore" pvpers that will max out for damage and have a better stratagy"[/*:m]

GM Comment: "I wanted to mention, without going into too many details, that post-Moria, MP will be getting a lot of TLC, certainly more then you guys have been accustomed to."
Player Comments: Lots of requests for creep mail
GM Response: "We are looking at mail and more ways to enhance the Creep experience."

Player Comment: "ever thought of makin the reinforcement quest inraid?"
GM Response: "That is changed, although not in this particular build"

Player Comment: Wanted to know if hounding fear was being looked at as it was ridiculous that they were a high level creep and got hounding fear from trees (or something along those lines)
GM Response: "heh-not my favorite debuff either" "That's on the list to examine-and yeah, it doesn;'t make much sense."

A few interesting points to note also:

  • When the outposts are neutral, the mobs guarding them drop dulls and glimmerings. So in theory you could farm stones from a neutral outpost if we don't have Delving access.[/*:m]
  • There has been some talk about whether you get elite status when you hit R9 and have all your passives. I have seen with my own two eyes that yes this IS the case. You get the eye and the glowy ring instead of a plain red circle ;-)[/*:m]
  • No more green rings when you eat food.[/*:m]

After todays Moors test event I am feeling a less despondent about how things are going to turn out. It may be tough for a while, but it sounds like we have some good things in store. And even though it will be a lot harder to take down experienced L60 PvPers with full gear and Legendaries, at least we will have more ranked creeps and a more structured organisation to work with.

I was not trying to make anyone feel usless, just to encourage folks to pick a toon and rank it and forget about trying to rank 2 or 3 toons at once.

As for wargs, the bottom line is wargs are not raid built and having more than 2-4 wargs in a raid just weakens the raid. They have major disadvantages in going into the freeps and trying to get pounces off. Granted that scouting, target picking, the alpha strike pounce and finishing off the low health runner are great for wargs but with all that freep AOE.../sadface.

I know what you meant Stick I was just picking on ya. I will agree with your last statement though, my wargie hide just isn't build for all that AOE punishment.

In regards to the spiders, they are going to be our minstrel killers in the sense that they can simply take them out of the equation. Power draining all of the minstrels we can find should severely handicap any freep force.

Snifff.....that right there made me feel useless since there is no way I am getting rank 9 anytime soon. ./wargpout

If I may adapt your statement there, rank helps a lot but I find it helps more to have competent and reliable people behind the toon moreso than their rank.

Playing a warg is easy to do, stealth/pounce/claw. Playing a warg to it's max potential, not so easy to do. I don't claim to be all the great but I think I am above average. I think the draw to warg for most is the stealth, and well speaking from personal experience. I liked hunting wargs on my freep back in book 9/10/11 so I wanted to get a better understanding of the class and what they can do. My plan kinda backfired when I started having fun on my warg and had no desire to go back to freepside. I'll gladly accept a B/P/E boost though, aoe attacks, while you are at it maybe a ranged attack like maybe a ranged howl to scare the freepsies.

Thoughts and slight rant

to make MoM work well for the creeps...

1) Get all your maps
2) Focus on 1 mabey 2 toons to rank up, R9 is the new R5.
3) Raid Friendly toons and good class balance accross the population (Raiding will still be the way to go IMO)
4) Raid will need to be that much better and faster on the FF
5) Alpha strike will be king, death will be faster therfore we should be able to kill more than 2 with our Alpha strike
6) Lag will be death, if you cant play during the opening moments of a fight due to lag it will hurt more than ever
7) WL in raids will be needed for the bubbling and rezes
8) If our dead have to release and map back...see item 1
9)Even though this is coming from me makes it no less true...lots of BA's are going to be critical in MoM, They got the biggest DPS boost and with the power regen in combat its a double boost. Other than trolls, its the BA+Defiler combo that is the best way to punish the freeps when they tarball.

A comment on #3,creep class balance...(Nothing personal here, just a discussion)
WLs: Good numbers, but more would help
Defilers: Same as WL's, but more of a nice to have in raids vs. must have WL's
Wargs: Way too many, why is it that every new creep rolls a warg?
(or give wargs a 15 sec B/P/E boost and an aoe melee attack.. :D )
Spiders: Good numbers, Spider raid value is only going to rise with MoM and ranks
Reavers: Great numbers (mabey too many), Hard to support without WL's
BA's: Too few and never enough (see item #4), encourge new creeps to roll BA's they are by far the easiest class to play and are aways welcome in raids.

It will be painful but less painful than what the cd was in earlier beta.

Although I haven't got to do much freep fighting in the Moors due to lack of folks being out there, I'd give it a sideways thumb. Some good, some bad. Freep dps hurts. Freep cc still hurts (champ's horn and RK=ouch). NPC's hurt more than on live (can't just ignore them anymore it seems). Burgs can still get their evade fairly high, just not as high as currently able.

Honestly, if I was looking at whether or not to buy MoM based purely on PvMP there's no way I would buy it. Then again this is not a PvP focused game so it'll probably never be as good as we'd like it to be. As a note, you don't have to buy MoM to be 60 and experience the new Moors. You do have to buy it to get access to the new skills/passives, from what I understand.

Agreed - thank goodness they didn't leave it at 5 minutes though! I use posts constantly, and they are often on CD (which is the only time I will ask for a snap), so doubling the CD will have a significant effect.

The one big positive that I've read about is that the B/P/E and critical nerfs hurt the freeps far more than they hurt us. Burgs won't be able to have those huge evade chances, hunters will have considerable more DPS, but criticals will be harder to come by for all freep classes, etc. And of course, that includes healing criticals from minstrels and captains. While we're not getting a great increase in DPS at first glance, it appears that what we do put out there will land more frequently... which is more important. A smaller positive is that the Ettenmoors gear come Moria is utter garbage, so you won't see people going to the 'moors in order to obtain good gear.

I think it's a slight thumbs up when you consider that the map changes will freshen up the experience for a few months, and by that time they'll probably end up doing their random dance of nerfing and buffing anew.

Defilers - The Good:

Some nice new skills, including a R6 AoE group HoT (333 every 5 sec/30 secs if traited for +10%)

Our power pool has increased by around 500

Defilers - The Bad:

My Morale is 1.2k less. Even with a max morale build (which I never use) I will still have ~500 morale less. And resistances... what are they? Chain stun here we come :-P

Our Fear can no longer be used on the move (with small 6m range, freeps only need to step back -or keep running- when you stop to use it to be unaffected)

Fungal Bloom and Fungal Spores now heal for 30-40% less

We are now SQUISHY... and NPC's hit HARD... no more kiting EC mobs while the group takes down the Freeps. And definitely no more kiting FM's or CG's. If Defiler's have a few NPC's on them from healing someone, will need you to stop and kill them or we will likely die.

LOTS of bugs (These are just the ones I have seen - likely going to be more once we get actual freep interaction):
- Our R6 group HoT currently removes the HoT from Fungal Bloom, and Vice Versa (Confirmed Fix: next book update)
- Our 2k heal does not have the +10 heal bonus from the trait attached to it (Confirmed Fix: next book update)
- Our R7 Debuff only decreases armour by 1,242... this should be 2,070 (Confirmed Fix: next book update)
- Gooey Gourd and Plague of Flies BUFF instead of DEBUFF the enemy (Confirmed Fix: post-launch patch)
- Plague of Flies debuffs friendly mobs and can cause friendly NPC aggro. Also set to agressive by default - we can't change it! (Confirmed Fix: none as yet)
- Blessing of Darkness does not have the +10 heal bonus from the trait attached to it (Confirmed Fix: none as yet)

That's just off the top of my head.

I am trying to stay positive and hope it isn't as bad as it looks once we get some decent numbers (and ranked creeps) together, but sadly, at least from a Defilers perspective, the bad outweighs the good at this stage. Will just have to wait and see how it all gels together I think :-)

In any case, I will stick it out no matter how bad it is/gets, unless you all desert the Moors and leave me alone in there LOL
