The US freepcreeps delivered me an early Christmas present in the form of a three day ban for spamming.

Watch your target macros out there folks - it seems it really is the silly season

In every online game I've played requiring a GM it's the same thing: very uneven application of infractions and supervision. I have a friend at Turbine (not on the LotRO team) and he's very defensive of my criticisms of LotRO governenace - the GMs are probably very nice people but the reality is that these are minimum-wage gamers who at best are capable of completing a GED. This plus they have no garunteed working hours and sometimes work ridiculous shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage. So it's not hard to imagine Smeg getting a GM having a bad day.

This will probably come as no shock to any of you, but Felhope was NOT given any sort of ban for using target macros in /Trade in the Ettenmoors (at least based on the fact that s/he was still playing several hours after I submitted the ticket).  I'm tempted to take this argument to the LOTRO forums (w/o mentioning any names of course), but I'm sure all I'd end up with is a deleted thread and more infraction points...

The one thing I'm kinda curious about: Are GMs this sporadic in handing out punishments in other games as well? Or is this more of a Turbine thing?

So I've been playing freepside in the Moors for the past few days (95% of which is doing quests. It's not like I'm competitive in my crafted armour w/ a 3rd ager lol!!)...but for the first time I've noticed several freeps using the /Trade channel in the Moors for targetting purposes (in the past I seem to recall /OOC being used).

In particular I noticed Felhope repeatedly spamming target names in /Trade (usually 5-6 times per target), and although I don't know Felhope and have no issues whatsoever with her (him?) or using /Trade for targetting, I decided I would see if the GMs will suspend her for 3-days for the EXACT SAME OFFENSE as Smeg, so I just reported her. I'll update you as to the response I get back from the GMs (and if Felhope is indeed suspended).

I hate being a dick...but I'm REALLY getting sick and tired of Turbine's incredibly uneven approach to player bans/suspensions...

I had not seen this use of /trade before this weekend on Brandy.  After reading a few /trade "<Name> rip his face off his face" or something similar a few folks finally asked it the poster was from El- turned out he was in this case.  It was good use of a channel that has been mostly dead or seldom used here.  I may have to use it or another channel for my scouting reports instead of hitting /ooc all the time.  Thanks for another good idea- as long as I remember not to spam it!

It's really cool.  You can use chat options to change channel colors (I do green for regional since that is healing/rez request macros) and purple for trade (so the target macroes stand out vs other stuff in chat pannel).

This.  I got a 3 day ban once for calling that one worthless twat a cuntrag since she had her creep logged in to watch ooc.

Clearly Smeg's spamming ban should have been twice as long as my cuntrag ban.

Good idea, except for one problem: You're then leaving it up to Turbine to create a new channel. At the rate at which they listen to player ideas, the channel wouldn't show up for another 3-4 years. Tongue out

Honestly I wouldn't switch it to another channel, but like creep said. the new creeps who make paragraphs as trade macros usually make me turn trade off for the night. so in that respect they do become spam and they end up giving others who accidentally hit a macro three times. Has anyone thought of maybe writing something like a petition to turn trade into an official target channel? like literally changing it to /target or something like that? I can't recall atm, but what other chat options are there by default? Does the Moors have any others that we could use? If not, then we only have two options which aren't going to be popular. We either clutter OOC with them or else go private as was mentioned. Not all creeps will use TS, so there will be somewhat of a disconnect. Still, it may be the only option.

Popped a message to Kelsen asking the very same question.  Not sure if it's in his department.. but he's the most likely IMO to understand our reasoning.

---------------------

Kelsen,

This likely isn't in your department as more on the Dev side vs rule enforcement in the 'moors, but I think you can appreciate our situation the most.

One of our creep raid leaders on Elendilmir, who has played most of this game's existance (Smegrat), was banned for 3 days for 'spamming' in the trade channel. As you probably know, Elendilmir Creeps have used the trade channel almost since PvMP came out to help communicate targetting information and we had selected /trade as there's really nothing for creeps to trade that requires a seperate channel. Smegrat was banned for hitting his 'macro' three times and many others have been warned. We, creepside, have long thought it's 'freeps' logged over on our side who jump on any chance to report us.

Question: If we move our 'targetting' to a custom channel, will we be still subject to the spamming rules?

We also expect to screw over new creep players as they will have to be all taught how to join a custom channel, so if something can be done from your side to alleviate reasonable behavior in /trade with transfering useful information, we would greatly appreciate it. There's enough segregation between creeps as there is and we only seek to further unify it and to continue to build a solid community.

Thanks!

Vyxe, Elendilmir Creep Raid Leader

Well that totally sucks Smeg.

To be honest true Trade "spam" annoys me. There are a bunch of new players to the server who obviously don't know the history around this and seem to think it's cool to create massive long macro's and spam them repeatedly in the hope that someone will hit the stupid target they were on in the hope of getting a bit of Inf after they are dead. There is also the risk that Freepcreeps will use the fact that Turbine will ban to use it as a tool to grief people.

I voted for a custom channel even though I don't want to see it happen. I think it sucks that we even have to consider this but the custom channel seems like the best way for good people to avoid bans.  Having said that, do people get banned for saying stuff in GLFF? i.e. do we know for sure that we can "spam" in a custom channel?

My guess,

This is either Teamzefo or Delaar or their friends trying to get back because they got banned.  Most likely will continue.

Things have seemed to hit a low point, with some leaving to swotr,  the loot box debacle, creep mit's suddenly nerfed, and especially that most of Freeps no longer bring the fight.  Whatever some may have thought of Kyptic and Orak at least they would bring the fight.

My other big problem with this is the GMs' lack of consistency on bans.

Smeg "spams" a target in /Trade three times and receives a 3-day ban.

A few months back some potty-mouthed idiot on creepside starts ranting about some minstrel in /OOC. Calls her the c-word. Hearing that I'd had enough so I reported him. GM responds to my ticket within 5 minutes saying the issue has been addressed; ticket closed.  Same idiot gets killed again a few minutes later, goes off on another rant, continues to use the c-word repeatedly in /OOC. I report him again, a different GM reponds to my ticket in the same timely fashion; ticket closed.  The guy continued to chatter on in /OOC.  No ban.

Turbine's GMs are nothing more than middle school hall monitors.

Creep

No. There was no warning. Game froze and then a notification on the screen that my account was suspended and that I could find out why by checking me email.

For a moment I was concerned that I might have to buy a sturdy key in game to open the email to find out why I was banned from the game - which would have presented a real conundrum. Thankfully Turbine were too clever to fall into that trap.

New Target Macro!

[To Trade] 'Want to Trade my DPS for [Freep's name Here]'s Moral!'

I think this is a simple enough fix, don't ya think?

Have you ever had a warning for this before Smeg?  I copped a warning from a GM a few months ago for hitting a trade macro once.

[Trade] ++ovenfra++: 'Please refrain from using the Trade Channel, unless you are trading with other players. Comments that are not trade related: please take them to OOC. Thank you.'

[To Trade] 'Was that really a GM in the trade channel?'

[Trade] ++ovenfra++: 'Yes. It is.'

[To Trade] 'Is it against the rules to use the trade channel for anything other than trade? Creeps don't trade.'

[To Trade] 'Are you still there ++ovenfra++? It would be good if you could clarify the rule for us.'

GM refuses to talk to me.

[19:31] Venal: he sent me this.. ++ovenfra++ tells you, 'The issue is spam related. You can target, just change the macro to not include the trade channel.'

This isn't the first time I hear about something like this, but it's the first time I hear about a 3 day ban. Surprised Sounds like a personal attack on Smeg with several or numerous creep-freeps filing complaints at the same time.

Pretty soon, they'll hand out bans for interupting moors PvE sessions...  good going Turbine.

Sad that it comes down to the freeps can only bring a fight if they eliminate the leadership of creeps from the game.

I'm all for it. As Muz and Mend can attest I've been using private channels on both sides for a long time now :)

Unreal.  These guys at Turbine are just taking everything to the nth extreme with little reason.  Sorry Smegs.  Hope you have a great holiday season.

That’s retarded, since the /trade channel has no value in the moors.  Little bit silly to ban someone for that…  Sorry to hear that Smeg.

This strikes me as absurdity.

Creeps have no economy, the trade channel serves no purpose.

Bunch of crock.

Wow that is fricking stupid.  How many times did you even hit it or was it like a cumulative thing?

Smeg "spammed" the macro in /Trade a whole THREE times. Absolutely ridiculous that they banned him 3 days for that. :(
